Supreme Court- what are you smoking?

I didn’t start this blog to be political but only to share a voice that sometimes will say something important, most of the times will not- but at least I have a voice. For the moment.

The outcome of the Supreme Court decision in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, is that corporations and labor unions have the same rights as individuals to use their funds via “unlimited spending” to express political views.

The Supreme Court has decided that the 14th Amendment shall grant to corporations, artificial persons, the same protection for deciding elections that natural persons have. The justices also struck down part of the McCain-Feingold campaign finance bill that barred union-and corporate-paid issue ads in the closing days of election campaigns.

Although in the past corporations have been granted some - but not all - protections that natural persons have (such as to be protected against unreasonable searches and seizures), this decision has created a worse political system.

The result is being framed as a problem for Democrats. But the decision should not just worry Democrats - it should worry everyone. This will make it hard for Congress to legislate substantial restrictions that have been in place for a century. As a CNN consultant said " It's now Campaign 2010... on steroids."

Q & A with Mrs. Richardson

Q & A: (assume I am being interviewed by someone really important)

What is the inspiration for Musing to the Max?

I have a lot of random thoughts and rants to share. But I think my husband may divorce me if he is forced to be the only person who has to hear everything my mind has to say.

Does the world really need another blog?

Yes. And ouch.

I heard you sleep diagonally. Is that true?

How do you feel about global warming?

I'm not an expert. But it's been darn hot here lately!

Why don't you go get a real job?

Good idea. Can you find me one?
